Thank you very much. Heartened by the inexpensive prices of the phones listed. Does anyone have hands on experience with the MagickJack Plus. Like what is the sound quality. The price has my curiosity. I know people rave about the older Magick Jack.

MagicJack Plus has better sound quality than regular Magic Jack. It has other advantages as well.

"SAVING BIG BUCKS ON VOIP PHONES

None of the providers can beat the prices of Google Voice, which is a free service and the equal of any phone out there. It has numerous bells and whistles. Someone would have brain lesions or just not know better to buy Fibrant’s $45 per month phone.

Next in line is very excellent MagicJack Plus Phone. This outrageously good performer is $69 dollars for the whole first year, along with their software gizmo. It’s $29 a full year after that. Prices are rumored to drop soon." Rowan Free Press

It's now down to $19.95 a year on the latest Wal-mart TV ad.

FIBRANT PHONE IS DEFINATELY VOIP (VOICE OVER THE INTERNET PROTOCOL)

Despite what some folks connected with Fibrant are saying Fibrant's high-priced phone ($45 per month alone) is definately VOIP (VOICE OVER THE INTERNET PROTOCOL). Fibrant installs an outside phone box and will connect to existing phone jacks, yet Fibrant's phone system utilizes the internet like any other VOIP.
Fibrant employs typical cat-5 wiring which bypasses a computer. This information was verified for me by sales staff personel today and by a Connective installer for Fibrant several weeks ago. MagicJack Plus also bypasses being plugged directly into a computer and it's sound quality is excellent HD. It's software gizmo is currently selling for around $69 for a one time purchase and it is only $19.95 a year for phone service after the first year of starting service. These prices may drop in the near future. Another excellent VOIP is Google Voice. It's FREE. Skype and Oomla also offer excellent pricing and services for the budget minded.

Some people swear up and down Fibrant isn't a VOIP phone. They say it's like AT&T's phone and isn't over the net. Isn't so. That it can be hooked into an old jack from the wall means nothing. It's still hooked up to the internet. Fibrant is VOIP. The new MagicJack Plus doesn't come off the computer although it works inside the house and can be powered by wall plug.

Windstream and Time Warner don't go through the computer and can use Cat-5 wiring and existing phone jacks for their phones. Vonage goes through the modem and avoids the computer. In some places AT&T uses VOIP instead of regular telephone lines. VOIP is Voice Over the Internet Protocol. It is common. Oomla and MagicJack plus, the newer version, bypass the computer hookup.

Dish,a major satellite TV provider in Rowan county, introduced Hopper a new whole home DVR system with enormous storage power. During primetime the Hopper DVR system can record up to 6 live HD channels at once and can allow you to watch up to 4 HD programs on different TVs. Hopper's HD hard drive storage is immense, likely the industry's largest to date, and can store up to 2000 shows. You begin watching live TV in one room, hit the pause button, and continued watching the show in another room without any specialized equipment in another..

I like the idea multiple shows being recorded, but the storage capacity seems like overkill.

2000 TV shows is gross overkill.

For the city's sake it would be good business for Fibrant to compete in price. They might get a few customers.

When Carl Dangerfield spoke at a recent commissioner's debate about bringing business to Rowan County he got a lot of laughs when he said: "We got Fibrant."

I have no regrets leaving Time Warner Cable, when my bill went up to $160 a month I said enough! I have a ROKU and regret not getting it sooner.....love it!! Thanks for the article, I am going to look into the simple TV DVD now too.
